Crossing The Line GIS Activity
View Larger Map Analysis 1. My first boundary is the separation of Quebec from Canada. Quebec is east of Canada but west of Newfoundland and Labrador. It also borders USA's Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Quebec also has a small island in the Gulf of Saint Laurence. My second boundary Arabian Gulf Union is the merge of the states Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and United Arab Emirates. They are located in the Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula minus Yemen. The Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, and Persian Gulf border the Arabian Gulf Union. 2. The reason Quebec would split from Canada is mainly the cultural differences. Quebec mainly speaks French whereas the rest of Canada speaks English. Another reason in religion Quebec is mainly Catholic compared to the rest of Canada which is mainly Protestant. As for government separatist movements have always had a strong following in Canada's second most populous province, Parti Quebecois within Quebec. The reason the Arabian Gulf Union States would merge is not only cultural similarities but tension with other states. These states are mainly follow the religion of Islam mainly Sunni, the reason that Yemen is not apart of the Arabian Gulf union is because it has mainly followers of Shiite and its a failing state. Bahrain is mainly Shiite but because of its territorial disputes with Iran allows less tension with Saudi Arabia. That is another reason why these states are close is the significant threat from Iran. The majority language of the states is Arabic which helps them stand a common ground. 3. The boundaries that decided where to split Quebec from Canada are cultural boundaries. The cultural feature mainly based on was language, french and english. Religion was also used separating mainly Catholic from mainly Protestant. The boundaries that merged the Arabian Gulf Union were cultural boundaries. The cultural feature was mainly religion and a common threat from Iran, but also language. 4. By separating Quebec from Canada you and separating Canada's main cultural difference of language. The economy of Quebec is more alike to Europe than to the rest of Canada, the economic difference between the two will cause less tension. By merging the Arabian Gulf Union you are combining a common threat from Iran and the cultural similarities of language and religion to form a stronger state both economically and culturally.
